Van Cleef & Arpels Art Deco Style Choker
A Rare Art Deco Style choker
Designer: Van Cleef & Arpels
Circa: 1980
Description: Epitomizing Egyptian revival combined with the artistic juxtaposition of color contrasting precious and semi-precious gemstones inherent in the distinct Art Deco jewelry, this exquisite French VCA work of art is designed as a an open-end ‘choker’ necklace of tapering width. The cartouche style central decor of Egyptian Revival inspiration depicts love birds artfully carved in custom-cut coral cabochon, graded ‘salmon’ color, with intricately carved and perfectly applied inlaid coral tail featherswide. Lapis lazuli birds’ eyes and breasts are rendered ‘en relief’ in ‘rich deep-blue’ colored cabochons while an alluring contrasting lapis lazuli ‘diamond’ offering between these lovestruck birds suggests a commitment, mounted against a sparkling backdrop pavé-set with full-cut diamonds. Bordered by absorbing black-onyx bands, the Egyption Revival scene is flanked by exquisitely inlaid, gently contoured, rectangular green-onyx, wide graded ‘pear-green’ color. Accentuated by matching black onyx bands on either side, an elegant pave-set diamond plaque gently hugs the sturdy gold choker. This captivating Art Deco style necklace is pavé-set with 4.15cts of full-cut diamonds graded H color and VS1 clarity mounted in polished yellow gold, a trait that VCA alone pioneered and accomplished with exquisite mastery.
